Travis Hunter apparently decided that being a two-way NFL star wasn’t enough excitement for one offseason.

So he went for a ride with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

And because this is Travis Hunter we’re talking about, it wasn’t exactly a quiet afternoon cruise around Jacksonville.

The man went on a police ride-along and ended up watching a drug bust.

Hunter, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ star wide receiver and defensive back, recently joined Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters on patrol. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Hunter has taken an interest in law enforcement and wanted to experience what police work actually looks like from inside the vehicle.

Apparently, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office decided to give him the full experience.

Welcome to Jacksonville, Travis

During the ride-along, Sheriff Waters received a call for assistance involving a traffic stop.

What started as a routine stop quickly turned into something considerably more serious.

Officers discovered drugs hidden inside containers with false bottoms in the vehicle.

And we’re not talking about somebody getting caught with a questionable baggie in the center console.

According to the officers featured in the video, the hidden containers contained fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and various pressed pills.

Hunter’s reaction?

Probably the most appropriate response imaginable:

“They done caught a kingpin.”

And honestly, what else are you supposed to say?

Imagine getting pulled over and looking over to see the Jacksonville Jaguars’ two-way superstar sitting in the passenger seat of the police vehicle.

At that point, you’re not having a good day.

From NFL Superstar to Backup Detective

Hunter was drafted by the Jaguars in 2025 and quickly became one of the most recognizable young players in the NFL.

But apparently his offseason bucket list included:

1. Play football.
2. Become a celebrity.
3. Ride around with the sheriff.
4. Accidentally witness a major drug bust.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Hunter and Sheriff Waters became friends after Hunter arrived in Jacksonville, and Waters showed him parts of the city he hadn’t previously seen.

The ride-along gave Hunter the opportunity to respond to calls and get a firsthand look at what officers actually deal with on a daily basis.

And then, because apparently Jacksonville wanted to make sure Hunter got his money’s worth, they handed him the police equivalent of a Netflix crime documentary.

The Suspect Has One Heck of a Story

Think about how ridiculous this story sounds if you’re the person getting arrested.

You get pulled over.

Police start searching the vehicle.

They discover fentanyl, cocaine, meth, marijuana and pills hidden inside secret compartments.

And then somebody tells you:

“By the way, Travis Hunter is here.”

That’s not even a normal police encounter anymore.

That’s a crossover episode.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office joked that the suspect could at least say he was “busted by an NFL star,” while also noting that Hunter’s schedule will make another ride-along difficult once the football season gets underway.

And Apparently There’s More Coming

Hunter’s relationship with Sheriff Waters apparently isn’t ending with this ride-along.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Waters promised Hunter a ride in the department’s helicopter.

So while the rest of us are trying to figure out how to get our fantasy football rosters ready, Travis Hunter is apparently working his way toward becoming the most athletic unpaid intern in the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

And honestly?

I’m here for it.

The man plays both sides of the football, so maybe police figured he was uniquely qualified for a two-way ride-along.

Just don’t let him start calling plays over the police radio.

“Dispatch, send backup.”

“Why?”

“Because Travis Hunter wants to cover the suspect.”
